I look at video editing in two ways. The first is like a puzzle; I’m given all these pieces, and the game is to find out how they best fit together. It’s actually a very fulfilling outlook as I find I let my emotions and instincts lead more than logic. The second way is like a jeweler; writers and producers find a gold mine, directors and cinematographers dig up the valuable gold, and editors craft it into something that can sell.

I learned in film school an important lesson on editing: You cut for emotion first, story second, and rhythm third. I always keep that in mind to make sure that first and foremost my work FEELS right. I’ve been working as a professional for over nine years now, and this lesson has never failed.
